Unfortunately not any more common than a manual allroad, but I could maybe go for a manual 2007 Mazda6 wagon. Looks good, seems nice, wagon, manual, and wields the 3.0 Duratec. Sooooooo looks like no matter what I choose, I need a budget of a minimum of $7,000. Time for those “bootstrap” things I keep getting told about.

Full size wagons are the truest of the wagon lineage. They are the one true wagon to rule them all!

It would probably be a lot easier to find one of the liftbacks, or is that not enough room?

Had a 2006 Mazda 6 sedan, v6 with the 6 speed auto. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a full size car that is still fun. A manual would make it perfect.

When I was shopping for a “used wagon to use as a pickup truck,” I cross-shopped various generations of the Mazda6, 3-series, Passat, and various Volvos.

I ended up with a 1st gen Volvo V70 T5 Manual. I like it to the point that it was supposed to be an errand car, and I have found myself daily driving it.

Buy it before I do. I’d just swap in nicer seats.

I was going to suggest one of these as well....I owned an bugeye Impreza wagon though, not a Legacy, but I LOVE the styling on that generation of legacy....all their current cars, barring the STi and BRZ are boring and bland :(

The older Impreza wagons are also great cars, but probably smaller than you’re looking for? Not sure. I had the NA 2.5L EJ251 in mine - 170hp, so not too bad!

Mine is for sale. It’s within your budget, but I’m not sure your fragile west coast sensibilities can handle the kind of rust it has.

I really thought hard about a Roadmaster or Caprice wagon before buying a Magnum. Upside is they are very moddible, the after market is strong, you can literally fit anything you want under the hood. Big block, small block. It doesn’t matter they all fit. Down side, it’s 90s GM foam and plastic interiors. You will spend lot if time running down spare parts for the interior. They are easy to wrench on though. Everything is easy to find and there is lots of room to work. The LT1 that came in the PC1, SS, and the Roady are not that quick by todays standards but will last 200k and more if you take care of it.

If you can find a manual Accord wagon with an H22 swap...well, it would probably be out of your range.

Have you looked at the Saab 9-2x/wrx wagons? I spent 4k on mine, granted it’s an automatic but I’ve seen manuals around that price point. 7-9 would get you a very nice one too. Turbo awd wagons are fun.

As a former Mazdaspeed 6 owner, allow me to recommend avoiding it unless you enjoy mass quantities rust, and interior rattles.

I really like these and would love to replace the freestyle with one but they usually seem a little too expensive when on rare occasion they do pop up.

But this is the most crackest of prices I’ve seen for one:
